Bourne requests SWOT analysis
The Town of Bourne requested the Cape Cod Commission design a planning process to engage key stakeholders in the development of an economic vision and strategic plan for the Town. Commission staff are currently working with the Town on this effort. The first phase of the project was to complete a SWOT (Strengths, Weaknesses, Opportunities and Threats) analysis of the town.
Community SWOT workshops were held in November 2017. Stakeholders were given the opportunity to identify internal and external factors that make the community appealing for residents and businesses, as well as those aspects that hinder its economic growth and may threaten the community in the future. Participants were also asked about their development priorities relative to the current goals and actions identified in the Town’s local comprehensive plan.
During the next phase of the project, Commission staff will facilitate an economic development strategic planning process that will include the development of a vision statement, three to five economic development goals and/or policies and a set of short- and long-term action steps. Based on the feedback from the SWOT workshops and the results of the strategic planning process, staff will draft, with the help of town staff, an economic development vision and strategic plan.
