Cape Cod Commission Releases Draft Cape Cod Freshwater Strategy

The Cape Cod Commission is pleased to announce the release of the draft Cape Cod Freshwater Strategy, a comprehensive, data-driven plan that defines a path forward for Cape Cod to support healthy, functioning freshwater ecosystems. The draft strategy is available for public comment. Comments will be accepted through Monday, March 17, 2025.

Notice of Public Review and Comment Period: FFY 2025-2029 Transportation Improvement Program (TIP) Amendment #3 

During a meeting held on January 27, 2025, the Cape Cod Metropolitan Planning Organization (MPO) released the Federal Fiscal Year (FFY) 2025-2029 Transportation Improvement Program (TIP) Amendment 3 for a 21-day public review and comment period.

FFY 2025-2029 TIP Amendment 3 would add a Federal Highway Administration (FHWA) Safe Streets for All supplemental planning grant in the amount of $315,000 for the Town of Barnstable to be programmed in FFY 2025. The Town will use these funds to conduct Road Safety Audits at fourteen high-crash locations in Barnstable, a project that supports the ongoing regional safety work of the Vision Zero Action Plan, an initiative under development to improve traffic safety and reduce fatalities and serious injuries region-wide.

Cape Cod and Islands License Plate Grant funds awarded to eight local organizations  

Eight Cape Cod organizations have been awarded a total of $300,000 in Cape Cod and Islands License Plate Grant funds to support initiatives that advance regional economic diversity and sustainability. The Barnstable County Board of Regional Commissioners approved the awards on January 28, 2025, as recommended by the Barnstable County Economic Development Council (BCEDC).

Attend a meeting to help improve roadway safety on Cape Cod

The Cape Cod Commission is developing a Vision Zero Action Plan for Cape Cod to identify and eliminate fatalities and serious injuries from vehicle crashes for pedestrians, bicyclists, transit users, and drivers. A series of public meetings designed to educate and inform the public about the plan and gather feedback will take place in November.

Community Members Invited to Attend Barnstable Digital Equity Events 

The Town of Barnstable is working with the Cape Cod Commission to develop a municipal digital equity plan to assess the digital divide across the community and to identify opportunities to advance digital equity. 

Residents, businesses, and organizations are invited to attend an upcoming event to learn about the digital equity plan and contribute to the development of the plan through group exercises and conversations.  Discussion topics will include internet availability, affordability, and reliability; technology and devices necessary for civic, social, and economic life; and skills to participate safely, confidently, and effectively online.

Cape Cod License Plate Grant Funds available to support economic development priorities and initiatives

The Cape Cod Commission, on behalf of the Barnstable County Commissioners and the Barnstable County Economic Development Council, is seeking proposals from local or regional governmental or nonprofit agencies for projects that support the area’s economic resiliency and advance the goals and actions of the 2024 Cape Cod Comprehensive Economic Development Strategy (CEDS).
