Proposed MassDEP Title 5 Amendments and Watershed Permit Regulations

MassDEP is proposing two regulatory initiatives: revisions to Title 5 regulations to establish natural resource “Nitrogen Sensitive Areas” (NSAs) for watersheds adversely impacted by nitrogen, and new Watershed Permit regulations.

Regional Organizations Form Canal Bridges Task Force 

In recognition of the regional importance of safe and reliable canal crossings, the Cape Cod Commission, the Cape Cod Chamber of Commerce, and the Association to Preserve Cape Cod have partnered to establish the Canal Bridges Task Force. The purpose of the Task Force is to share information, assist with outreach efforts, collect and coordinate input, and advocate for the replacement of the Bourne and Sagamore bridges in a manner that is the best long-term interest of the region and its people.

Applications open for third session of Cape Cod Climate Ambassador Program  

The Cape Cod Commission is pleased to invite Cape and Islands students in grades 9-12 to apply for the Climate Ambassador Program. The Program is an initiative to educate, engage and empower young people on Cape Cod to work together to combat the impacts of climate change.

Initial work underway for 2024 Regional Transportation Plan  

The 2024 Regional Transportation Plan will be a 25-year vision for the future of transportation on Cape Cod, looking ahead to the year 2050. It is a community-driven, performance-based plan that considers the unique challenges and opportunities of the region.  The Plan is expected to include strategies to meet Climate Action Plan goals to reduce vehicle miles traveled, support low and no-carbon transportation options, and accelerate the electrification of the transportation system.

Cape Cod Commission model interests neighbors to the West 

Door County, Wisconsin, is a peninsula comprised of more than a dozen distinct communities. Surrounded by Lake Michigan and Green Bay, the area is a popular tourist destination. With its geography, natural beauty, arts and culture, and miles of beautiful coastline, it's no wonder Door County has been called the Cape Cod of the Midwest.

Cape Cod Commission Deputy Director Erin Perry recently presented information about the Cape Cod Commission to the Door County Environmental Council as they work to combat similar economic and environmental issues.

From 2018 to 2020, there were 14,404 vehicle crashes reported on Cape Cod, 33 of which were fatal.

The Cape Cod Climate Change Collaborative will host the 5th annual NetZero conference on October 28, 2022. Climate leaders from across the globe, country, and region are coming together to focus on local climate action.
